  • Summer Reading Challenge!

Wed 29 Jun 2022 Lucy Daubney

This year, we are encouraging children to participate in the Summer Reading Challenge. We have recently had a visit from Wiltshire Library which explained the challenge for the children. Below, we have attached some information about the Summer Reading Challenge.

ThSummer Reading Challenge, presented by The Reading Agency, is delivered in partnership with public libraries and funded by Arts Council England. The Challenge encourages children aged 4 to 11 to enjoy the benefits of reading for pleasure over the summer holidays, providing lots of fun as well as helping to prevent the summer reading ‘dip’.

Each year the Challenge motivates over 700,000 children to keep reading to build their skills and confidence. This year’s Summer Reading Challenge theme is Gadgeteers, created in partnership with Science Museum Group and illustrated by top children’s writer and illustrator Julian Beresford.

This year’s theme ‘Gadgeteers’ will spark children’s curiosity about the world around them. With resources and activities from the Science Museum Group, the Challenge focuses on inspiring children to see the science and innovation behind everyday objects, showing that reading and science are for everyone.

The Challenge and the accompanying book collection will show that imagination can unlock endless possibilities, and the library is where this starts. Through taking part in the Challenge, with free packs from public libraries or on the children’s website, children will be able to join six fictional ‘Gadgeteers.’ The characters use their curiosity and wonder to understand the science behind a whole range of interests from fashion and technology to cooking and music.

The Challenge will launch in libraries in Scotland and N.I. on Saturday 25 June and in England and Wales on Saturday 9 July. Children can also join in the fun online, here on the official Challenge website.

We hope you enjoy and participate in the challenge - happy reading!

  • Finkley Down Farm

Tue 28 Jun 2022 Mrs Daubney

The children in Year 1 went on an amazing trip to Finkley Down Farm! During the trip, they were able to explore the farm and the different animals. Throughout the day, the children went with a science focus and they discussed the animals and their characteristics. They were then given a brilliant opportunity to go around with a farmer. In this session, the children were able to: learn about the meerkats, groom a pony and meet some very fluffy rabbits!

The children were amazing and they were respectful and kind to all. They had a brilliant day and enjoyed travelling on the coach. Well done Year 1!

  • Year 2 and 3 Sports Afternoon

Fri 17 Jun 2022 Lucy Daubney

In Year 2, the children were invited to a sports afternoon at CJS on their field. They were in groups with Year 3 children who were able to act as role models for them. Throughout the afternoon, the Year 5 children modelled how to complete each activity. The children then moved through each activity and they had lots of fun! All the adults and children had a wonderful time and they are looking forward to the next one!

  • Staff Training

Fri 17 Jun 2022 Laura Eatherington

Do you wonder what the staff get up to on TD days?  On Friday 27th May's TD day, all of Clarendon Infant Staff attended a training session to develop trauma informed practice.  It was an incredibly useful day which has given us lots of ideas for how we will further develop our skills to support children and parents with a focus on developing emotional wellbeing and positive mental health amongst our whole school community.  We will be sharing more about the next steps on our exciting journey towards becoming a trauma aware school with you in September.  Keep your eyes open for an invite to a 'stay and do wellbeing' session in the Autumn Term!
