Numbers and Place Value

At Clarendon we use resources such as tens frames, base 10 and numicon to support children in developing their understanding of place value. They use 100 squares and number lines to link the spoken number to the numeral and to find 1 more, 1 less and 10 more and 10 less from a given number.

In EYFS, children learn to read, write and order numbers to 10.  They learn number bonds within 10 and count beyond 10 when they are ready.

Follow this link to Topmarks for games to help your EYFS child with counting.

In years 1 and 2 children learn to read, write and order the numbers up to 100 and beyond. They work with a range of resources to develop their understanding of place value - for example to know what the digit 4 represents in the number 43.

ICT games has fun games to help your key stage 1 child's understanding of place value.
