Excitement in Year One when award winning Storyteller visits for the day!
On Tuesday 4th June the storyteller Michele O’Brien visited our school with Colin Phillmore and a box of props. She came to start off our term of ‘Tales from around the World’.
Each Year One class was transported to the dry Kenyan landscape where they met a very hot hippo.
The children were captivated throughout by the story: imagining what Kenya was like; learning a Swahili song with dancing; acting out the parts of animals, birds, fishes and insects and thinking what they could say, on behalf of the hippo to persuade the god, Ngai, to let him in the cool river.
Taking part in the story and doing the linked Art activities made it a very enjoyable day.
